A Daughter's Redemption

I love to read as I have certainly mentioned many times over the years here on my blog.   I also rather enjoy reviewing books, but this particular book review is extra special because the author is a homeschooling friend of mine!  How exciting is that?!  I know a published author!

A Daughter's Redemption is a Love Inspired Christian romance book written by Georgiana Daniels.

From the back cover:

Inheriting her estranged father's property isn't the reason Robyn Warner wanted to come back to Pine Hollow. She thought she'd make amends with her father—but his sudden death made that impossible. And when she learns the identity of the handyman fixing the run-down cabins, Robyn is ready to flee Pine Hollow again. Caleb Sloane, the cop responsible for her father's accident, just wants to uphold his promise and then return to the force. But he can't seem to walk away. After all, he understands about guilt and regret. And he'll do everything he can to help Robyn find healing, happiness and—just maybe—a lifetime of love.

First I must admit that I'm not your typical romance novel reader.  The mushy gushy, lovey dovey stuff generally seems very contrived and unrealistic to me.  I get bored and put the book down, moving on to something else.  This book, however, hooked me in within the first chapter.  It was so good that I could not put it down and I stayed up in the wee hours of the morning just to finish it so that I could find out what happened!  With three small children who wake early, that does not happen often around here! No, I'm not just saying this because I know the author!

While this is categorized as a romance novel, the storyline and characters were very much grounded in reality.  Every event, every plot twist, every emotion was something that I could relate to through events in my own life.

Robyn Warner inherits a rundown property from her estranged father after he passes away.  She struggles with mixed emotions about his death because she'd never had the chance to make things right in their relationship, as well as with her brother and sister.  Guilt overwhelms her as revisits the home of her youth  and takes on the responsibility of restoring the property in order to sell.

Caleb Sloane is a police officer, wrestling with his own guilt.  He holds himself responsible for the death of Robyn's father and while under investigation in his police department decides to do something to alleviate his struggle by taking it upon himself to fix up the property Robyn inherited.

Robyn is unaware of Caleb's role in her father's passing and looks to him for friendship and guidance as they work side by side.   Feelings begin to develop between the two, even though Caleb fights against them as much as he can muster.  What will happen when the truth finally comes to light? Will Robyn restore her place in her family?  Can she forgive herself for not settling things with her father before he died?

This story unfolds piece by piece, drawing the reader in and keeping them captivated by each turn of events.  Even if you are the romance novel type, I recommend giving this one a try!
