Homeschool Week in Review--MNO

It's been several weeks since I've updated about what is going on in the world of the Bub.  Ever since he decided that gardening wasn't his thing, we've been working in his regular Animal Play curriculum from Teach Me Joy.

Our letter of the week style lessons have taken us from macaroni to octopi.

Crafting away
A Marvelous Macaroni M
While dealing with real life rodents is definitely NOT something that I tolerate well, making cute little mice from index cards and crayons seems tonot stir up deep aversive feelings. Meet Miguel---

Never really needing an excuse to devour eat M&Ms, but capitalizing on the fact that it was 'M' week,  we used them to practice the numbers from 1-10, placing the appropriate number of the melt-in-your-mouth candies on the corresponding numerals.

During N week, we learned about newts and how they live on both land and in water.

We added to our homemade letter collection by including our Noodle Name N.  I would love to let you know how seemingly impossible it is to find alphabet noodles around here and how I must be one of the best moms ever for special ordering them from Amazon after searching every.single.grocery.store in a 15 mile radius, but I just don't think that would be very gracious, do you? ;)

We read about the birth of Jesus and Aron made a birthday card for our Lord and Savior.

That's his rendition of Jesus in the green
We reviewed the number eight,

and practiced our short vowel sounds and blends.  I'm so proud of Aron because as he learns to read more and more CVC words, his enthusiasm increases and he asks nearly every day if it is "phonics time" yet. My little man is growing up!

O week has been one of the more fun weeks during this school year.  We painted Os by dipping styrofoam cups in paint and pressing them on to paper,

we traced ovals and practiced our scissor skills,

drew ovals on orange paper,

learned about ostriches with the aid of a wonderful book, The World of Animals,

decorated an O with cheeriOs,

made an octopus pal,

and to close out the week we had a meal made completely out of orange food(peaches, Cheez Its, carrots, and cheddar cheese washed down with orange juice in an orange cup!).

That's what's happening in our preschool!  What kind of fun are you having in yours?
