The Potty Adventures of Princess Sweetpea

Dare I get excited?

Last week, I noticed that the novelty of potty training had worn off for my little princess. We were almost one month in, and she no longer seemed thrilled with sitting on the "big girl" potty and going to the bathroom. I also noticed that she was starting to go less and pee more in her pullup. Since I opened the potty training door, I refuse to close it, so I made the decision to buy her some panties. I was hesitant to make that jump because the idea of cleaning poo and urine from my carpets was not appetizing. However, I has only chosen to use Pullups to start with to get Sweetpea used to pulling her own pants up and down. She pretty much has this mastered, but still needs a little help.

Off to the store Sweetpea and I marched on Friday. I felt a bit sad purchasing the underwear for my little, ahem, big girl. Is she really almost 2 1/2? *Sigh* Okay, snap back to reality. I got a small stash and we took them home where she promptly showed them off to Daddy. We started our adventure on Saturday.

That morning, after she woke up, and went potty, I took off her Pullup(I still use them at night and during naps) and explained to her that we needed to go potty in the toilet and to try her best to keep her panties dry. Well, we had about 11 accidents that day, and I had a not so pleasant experience discovering one of the accidents by stepping in it. However, she did seem to come to me more to tell me that she needed to go. I left my carpet cleaner, disinfectant spray and cleaning towels handy.

Sunday morning, we did the same routine. She had fewer accidents that morning and protested a little when I tried to put a Pullup on her for nap time. She wanted to wear her "big girl panties!" As the day went on, we had quite a few accidents, and then that evening she kept asking to go then would sit on the potty for just a few seconds and declare, "I've got nothing!" After the sixth trip like this, Hubs and I both agreed that we thought she had to do #2, but was hesitant to do it on the toilet or in her underwear. So, since it was really close to bedtime anyhow and I didn't want her to get constipated, I went ahead and put the pullup on her. A few minutes later, she got "that look" so I scooped her up and she did it, she pooped on the potty for the first time! We got two stickers for the potty chart! Sunday totaled about 9 accidents, but several of those times, she wet her pants enough to realize she needed to go, stopped, and then asked to finish on the potty.

Yesterday went surprisingly well. She only had 5 accidents all day and they were all in the morning. I put her in her pull up for nap, she woke up dry, and didn't have an accident for the rest of the night. She even woke up dry this morning and hasn't had an accident yet! *knock on wood* Here's to hoping this is the first of many dry days!

  1. I'm beginning to wonder if Allie will EVER be potty trained! Can't we just snap our fingers and they would be instantly trained?

Keep up the training-- I need you to tell me what the secret is!
